Principal Software Engineer – Variant Knowledge Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical design for complex, ambiguous, and open-ended challenges that encompass the Variant Knowledge Platform and the wider interpretation stack.

• Establish and refine the data models for variant identity, classification, and annotation.

• Create production-ready, versioned REST API contracts.

• Lead the advancement of systems that convert raw bioinformatic data into reliable variant- and sample-level information.

• Spearhead the architecture for automating evidence placement and classification.

• Define system architectures across the organization.

• Direct cross-team technical initiatives.

• Set the strategic direction for system operability.

• Oversee large-scale data migration and backfill projects.

• Mentor and elevate engineers across various teams.

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to uncover business opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree.

• At least five years of experience in REST API and contract design, including versioning, deprecation strategy, and secure service-to-service authentication (e.g., Okta-based identity).

• A minimum of two years of experience in designing and operating cloud-based services on AWS.

• At least five years of experience with a primary backend programming language used for data-intensive services (e.g., Python).
