Principal Software Engineer – Postgres

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead the design and execution of sophisticated system features in areas such as storage, replication, query execution, and performance enhancement.

• Enhance and expand Postgres internals to boost reliability, scalability, and efficiency.

• Develop prototypes and extensions that augment Postgres’s core functionalities and facilitate integration with cloud-native frameworks.

• Work alongside product, infrastructure, and cloud platform teams to create robust, developer-friendly solutions.

• Analyze and improve database performance through low-level instrumentation and benchmarking techniques.

• Provide technical guidance, establish standards for engineering excellence, and mentor senior engineers.

• Operate with a high degree of autonomy and ownership, steering projects from initial concept to full production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in developing systems software using C/C++ or Rust (experience with Go is a plus).

• Extensive knowledge of PostgreSQL or other database engine internals, including storage, execution, or replication subsystems.

• Strong comprehension of concurrency, operating systems, and performance engineering principles.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver large-scale systems or core infrastructure features from start to finish.

• Experience in contributing to open-source databases or similarly complex systems is highly preferred.

• A pragmatic problem solver with a preference for simplicity and measurable outcomes.
