Principal Software Engineer, Platform – DevEx

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +8 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and develop AI-native developer tools, encompassing agent orchestration layers, harnesses, and LLM reasoning loops.

• Create infrastructure for environments, build and CI/CD processes, developer portals, guardrails and compliance, as well as velocity harnesses.

• Recognize opportunities to leverage coding-agent infrastructure expertise to support teams across R&D.

• Provide detailed system designs and guide independent project delivery alongside R&D colleagues.

• Eliminate obstacles impacting the broader engineering organization.

• Act as a technical consultant on agent-runtime architecture across various teams.

• Predict technical challenges in significant platform initiatives.

• Assess ServiceTitan’s technological requirements for AI-native developer tooling over a 1–3 year timeframe and spearhead milestones.

• Develop orchestration patterns, harness code, and safety guardrails for agents that can be adopted by other engineers.

• Mentor and elevate the technical standards for engineers at the Staff level and below.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15–20+ years of experience in software engineering.

• Recent hands-on experience in the past 6–12 months building coding-agent-runtime infrastructure.

• Familiarity with agent orchestration, harnesses, or LLM reasoning loops.

• Coding-agent-runtime infrastructure experience is a strict requirement; process automation or AI-assisted code review is not sufficient.

• Proven principal-level track record of technical decisions and architecture that have been adopted by other teams or organizations.

• Extensive experience with build systems, CI/CD, or internal developer platforms that have been deployed and operated at scale in production.

• Ability to set direction independently with minimal oversight and formulate plans autonomously.

• Experience in environment safety, RBAC, secrets management, and compliance gates for autonomous or semi-autonomous coding agents.

• Preferred: Experience where coding agents are integral to daily engineering workflows.

• Preferred: Experience in representing engineering direction externally or influencing practice changes across an organization.
