Principal Software Engineer – Online Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Design the architecture for customer-facing experiences on homedepot.com across four Online Experiences product teams.

• Establish technical direction and make architectural decisions that impact customers.

• Engage in software design, development, and manage the entire product lifecycle.

• Collaborate and work alongside UX, engineering, product management, support, and other product teams.

• Develop secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions alongside reusable foundational code.

• Produce architecture diagrams, documentation, dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses for production issues.

• Define Service Level Objectives and oversee product reliability.

• Automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases.

• Conduct destructive testing to enhance production resilience.

• Identify and address areas of unsecured code.

• Draft API specifications and contracts for shared data integration.

• Assess production performance and capacity concerning code, infrastructure, data, and message processing.

• Provide support for production applications, triage high-priority issues and outages, and engage with vendors and the open-source community.

• Lead and participate in communities of practice, learning and applying new technologies.

• Mentor and develop the skills of junior engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be eighteen years of age or older.

• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Expertise in an object-oriented programming language, preferably Java.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.

• At least 6 years of professional experience.

• Proficient in a modern programming language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Proficient in a modern web application framework like Node.js.

• Proficient in SQL queries against relational databases.

• Strong knowledge of a version control system, preferably Git.

• Skilled in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, Linux/Unix, CI/CD, testing, cloud computing, production systems design, microservice architectures, design patterns, NoSQL databases, query optimization, data modeling, RESTful, and GraphQL APIs.

• Familiarity with the 12-factor methodology.

• Experience in building or integrating generative AI and LLM-based services.

• Proficient in using AI-assisted tools throughout the product development lifecycle.

• Experience in front-end performance optimization and production observability/monitoring.
