This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define and lead the multi-year architectural transformation of CD Baby’s customer-facing platform from a .NET monolithic structure to a modular, service-oriented architecture.
• Break down the monolith into distinct services for distribution, royalties, analytics, catalog management, and account management.
• Choose the appropriate programming languages and data storage solutions for each service.
• Take ownership of the application data model, ORM patterns, schema design, and data access conventions.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering on models and pipelines that integrate with Snowflake.
• Write production-level back-end code as a Principal individual contributor.
• Assist in completing the transition from on-premises infrastructure to Azure cloud.
• Establish and maintain standards for CI/CD, automated testing, observability, performance, and security.
• Plan continuous delivery that integrates platform modernization with customer-facing product launches.
• Mentor engineers through hands-on collaboration and by setting a positive example.
• Work together with front-end, SDET, data engineering, design, product management, infrastructure, and internal tools teams.
• Report to the Director of Engineering.
• 10+ years of progressive back-end software engineering experience, including substantial technical leadership as Principal, Staff, or equivalent individual contributor.
• Demonstrated production experience in transforming a monolithic application into a service-oriented architecture while ensuring operational continuity.
• In-depth expertise in .NET (C#) and SQL Server at scale within containerized environments on a leading cloud platform.
• Azure experience is preferred; experience with AWS or GCP is also relevant.
• Proficient in at least one of the following: Go, Node.js, or Python.
• Experience in selecting and managing workload-appropriate data storage solutions beyond relational databases.
• Strong background in ORM, including Entity Framework, Dapper, or similar frameworks.
• Expertise in schema design, data modeling, migrations, and performance trade-offs in ORM/query execution at scale.
• Hands-on experience in API contract design using REST, GraphQL, or gRPC, including aspects of versioning, evolution, and contract testing.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and safe continuous delivery practices at scale.
• Experience collaborating with data engineering on analytical pipelines.
• Technical authority in back-end architecture, distributed systems, data modeling, and cloud platforms.
• Ability to convey technical trade-offs to engineers, product partners, and executives.
• Experience in the music, media, or entertainment industry is appreciated but not mandatory.
• Base salary ranging from $180,000 to $205,000 annually.
