Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Lead the technical decision-making process and contribute to the architecture of a high-load, microservices-oriented gaming platform.

• Maintain a hands-on approach by writing production code daily; this role is not solely focused on architecture or people management.

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable backend services that directly support our gaming products.

• Take full ownership of intricate backend systems, overseeing everything from technical design to delivery, monitoring, optimization, and support.

• Continuously enhance system performance, latency, reliability, and scalability in a high-throughput setting.

• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver features comprehensively.

• Drive and engage in code reviews, establishing a high standard for clean, maintainable, efficient, and production-ready code.

• Conduct architectural reviews and guide the team toward practical, scalable, and sustainable technical solutions.

• Tackle complex business and technical challenges with a strong engineering mindset and pragmatic decision-making.

• Serve as a technical role model for the team by demonstrating strong ownership, discipline, and engineering excellence.

• Mentor fellow engineers through daily collaboration, technical discussions, and practical examples.

• Participate in on-call rotations within the squad to ensure the reliability, availability, and swift incident response of the system.

• Pursue growth into technical leadership while remaining closely connected to coding, delivery, and system ownership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant hands-on backend engineering experience with a proven track record of writing production code on a daily basis.

• Solid experience with Node.js and TypeScript is highly preferred; strong experts in other OOP languages such as Java, Python, C++, C#, or Go may also be considered.

• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture.

• Practical experience with distributed systems and messaging technologies like Apache Kafka and gRPC.

• Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.

• Familiarity with columnar databases such as ClickHouse and/or NoSQL technologies like DynamoDB or MongoDB.

• Excellent ability to design, build, test, deploy, and maintain production-ready backend services.

• Proven experience in developing and maintaining unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.

• Established capability to work with high-load, scalable, and business-critical systems.

• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills.

• Ability to make technical decisions independently and take responsibility for their consequences.

• Strong commitment to code quality, with a clear understanding of maintainability, reliability, and long-term system health.

• Willingness to advance into a technical leadership role while remaining hands-on.

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
