This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the technical software architecture throughout our platform ecosystem—Infrahub, and upcoming products—to guarantee a clean, extensible design that scales effectively with customer growth.
• Spearhead strategic initiatives in a hands-on manner, implementing high-impact architectural enhancements to our graph database engine, backend services, and core platform components.
• Promote systematic reduction of technical debt by setting architectural standards, pinpointing areas that may pose challenges at scale, and guiding the team through a thoughtful evolution of the codebase.
• Advocate for and implement AI-first engineering practices within the team—determining how we utilize AI in daily development, ensuring our codebase and platform integrate seamlessly with AI tools, and designing product features that facilitate customer automation using AI on Infrahub.
• Offer technical leadership through architecture evaluations, code assessments, the creation of RFC/design documents, and mentorship—enhancing the capabilities and decision-making of the entire engineering team.
• Collaborate closely with Product, the Head of Engineering, and the CTO to foresee scaling challenges before they arise, converting the business roadmap into a technical strategy and ensuring our software architecture fosters rather than limits product innovation.
• Engage actively with engineers during implementation phases, ensuring architectural decisions are well understood and executed while maintaining high velocity and code quality.
• 8+ years of experience in backend and platform engineering, with a proven history of building and scaling complex systems that manage real production loads.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and a comprehensive understanding of writing performant, maintainable code within large codebases.
• Experience in building developer platforms or tools that other engineers utilize.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and scaling distributed systems, encompassing API design, data consistency patterns, and architectural trade-offs at scale.
• A record of leading significant initiatives or platform architecture designs, with examples of enhancing system scalability, reliability, or developer velocity.
• A hands-on software architect mindset—comfortable with coding, design reviews, and mentoring engineers to elevate the entire team's technical skills.
• Strong belief in AI-first engineering and a desire to promote its integration across the team, transforming our software development processes and enabling customers to utilize AI effectively.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills—capable of producing clear design documents, presenting technical strategies to leadership, and collaborating effectively across product, engineering, and customer-facing teams.
• Self-motivated and effective in remote work environments, with at least 4 hours of overlap with the CET timezone (Europe, UK, or US East Coast locations are ideal).
• The people: Collaborate with world-class engineers who have built and scaled automation platforms in production. Engage in daily technical challenges with intelligent colleagues who inspire your growth.
• The product: Influence Infrahub based on genuine customer needs. Your contributions directly affect features, integrations, and roadmap priorities.
• The mission: We are making enterprise-grade infrastructure automation accessible to any organization. Open-source at the core and production-ready out of the box. This is a multi-year journey, not just a quarterly sprint.
• The impact: Work with teams managing some of the world's most intricate infrastructure deployments, tackling problems that resonate throughout entire organizations.
