This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the development of product strategy and roadmap for custom models and self-hosted AI capabilities at GitLab.
• Drive the discovery, prioritization, and implementation of features that enhance model flexibility, self-managed deployments, and AI agent orchestration use cases.
• Collaborate effectively with engineering, design, and other product leaders to transform complex customer and technical requirements into clear product direction.
• Define product specifications that take into account infrastructure, configuration, deployment, and hardware considerations in self-hosted environments.
• Work alongside internal stakeholders on GitLab AI initiatives to ensure this product area aligns with the broader platform strategy.
• Guide tradeoff decisions with a strong emphasis on customer value, technical feasibility, and long-term platform quality.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and continuity as the team expands and evolves, aiding new projects in progressing with context and clarity.
• Clearly communicate plans, decisions, and priorities in a transparent manner that enables distributed teams to execute asynchronously.
• Proven experience in owning product strategy for technical platforms, infrastructure, or AI-driven products.
• Understanding of AI model ecosystems, including custom model options, open models, or open weight models, and the product decisions required to support them.
• Familiarity with self-hosted or self-managed software and the operational requirements of customers utilizing software in their own environments.
• Capability to collaborate effectively with engineers on topics such as configuration, infrastructure, deployment patterns, and hardware-related constraints.
• Experience in leading complex product initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and making clear decisions in technically ambiguous areas.
• Proficiency in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey product direction effectively in a distributed, asynchronous environment.
• Judgment to operate at a principal level, with ownership across strategy, execution, and cross-functional alignment.
• Willingness to apply transferable experience from adjacent fields such as DevSecOps, developer platforms, infrastructure software, or applied AI products.
