Principal Platform Engineer – Connected Aviation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Take charge of and enhance the AWS infrastructure that underpins our data platform, machine learning training, and analytics workloads (including Iceberg/Trino, ETL pipelines, Kubeflow/MLflow).

• Create, implement, and manage services based on EKS and Kubernetes workloads.

• Develop and oversee Terraform infrastructure across various environments (development, staging, production).

• Design and sustain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment (utilizing GitLab/GitHub).

• Manage and enhance Kafka/Redpanda clusters.

• Boost the reliability, observability, and performance of prediction services.

• Provide support for Dagster in data workflow orchestration.

• Work collaboratively with Data Science, ML Engineering, and Data Engineering teams to bring models and data pipelines to production.

• Fortify AWS IAM, networking, and connectivity between cloud and on-premises systems.

• Assist in cyber hardening initiatives alongside our RTX cyber team.

• Recognize and progressively enhance existing infrastructure and deployment methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) combined with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field along with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

• Proficient in Python.

• Extensive experience with AWS (including EKS, IAM, VPCs, and networking).

• Practical experience with Kubernetes in operating production workloads.

• Experience in managing Kafka (or Redpanda) within production environments.

• Proficient in Terraform for infrastructure as code.

• Experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (using GitLab, GitHub Actions, or similar tools).

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, reliability, and scaling concepts.

• Experience supporting production data pipelines or machine learning systems.

• Familiarity with observability stacks (such as Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, etc.).
