This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio, +1 more state.
• Assess, design, and implement technological solutions to advance technology strategies within a line of business.
• Serve as the application owner for third-party, purchased software associated with a line of business.
• Collaborate with vendors to comprehend forthcoming changes.
• Develop strategies to ensure business continuity and operational effectiveness.
• Oversee, analyze, and optimize mainframe system performance (CPU, memory, I/O, workloads).
• Recognize performance bottlenecks and execute corrective measures.
• Examine SMF/RMF data to deliver actionable insights and recommendations.
• Enhance WLM policies and service class definitions to align with business objectives.
• Create and sustain capacity models to forecast future demand and growth.
• Conduct trend analysis and forecasting for CPU, DASD, and throughput needs.
• Partner with engineering and business teams to synchronize capacity plans with strategic initiatives.
• Assist with hardware upgrades, LPAR sizing, and decisions regarding infrastructure scaling.
• Execute z/OS system programming tasks including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
• Optimize system parameters (PARMLIB, JES2, WLM, SRM) for performance enhancement.
• Support and improve system automation and health monitoring.
• Maintain system software, including SMP/E maintenance, patching, and upgrades.
• Diagnose system-level issues affecting performance and availability.
• Use performance tools such as RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON, or similar.
• Create reports and dashboards to convey performance metrics to stakeholders.
• Develop scripts or automation (REXX, Python, or equivalent) to enhance efficiency.
• Adhere to industry and organizational best practices and standards, participating in company communities of practice to continuously refine and communicate them.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Attain operational excellence by automating processes and developing maintainable, supportable, and testable solutions.
• Stay updated with technology trends and innovations in relevant fields.
• Provide operational support and troubleshooting for your team’s products and services.
• Offer coaching, mentoring, and training to new or less experienced team members.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Over 8 years of engineering or related IT work experience pertinent to the position.
• In-depth knowledge of z/OS internals, WLM, RMF, SMF, JES2/JES3.
• Practical experience in capacity planning and performance analysis.
• Proficiency in system-level diagnostics and problem-solving.
• Experience with SMP/E, PARMLIB configuration, and system upgrades.
• Strong analytical and communication abilities.
• Openness to working in a highly collaborative environment.
• Solid understanding and extensive experience with contemporary software development practices, tools, and/or hardware technologies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of IT security best practices.
• Expertise in one or more technical and/or functional domains relevant to the position.
