This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the migration and development of Android across Cash Line and Unsecured Installment product surfaces, making informed technical decisions to enhance product quality, scalability, and execution speed.
• Assist in delivering Upstart’s approved Android launch plan, effectively translating ambitious business objectives into practical technical milestones and execution strategies.
• Establish the technical direction for mobile architecture, aiding teams in developing a robust foundation across native Android and React Native surfaces while maintaining a core focus on Android expertise.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering stakeholders across both teams to transform roadmap priorities into sustainable mobile solutions.
• Elevate engineering excellence through technical leadership, design reviews, mentorship, and effective execution in complex, high-visibility problem areas.
• Post-launch, remain a mobile specialist who can support both the Cash Line and Unsecured Installment teams, offering deep Android knowledge and sufficient React Native fluency to contribute across shared mobile platforms.
• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, with significant background in developing and deploying native Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java.
• Proven experience leading large-scale, cross-team mobile initiatives, platform migrations, or new mobile product launches within production environments.
• Experience in delivering consumer-facing mobile products at scale, emphasizing performance, reliability, and user experience.
• In-depth knowledge of native Android development in Kotlin and/or Java, paired with practical experience in React Native and TypeScript to work effectively within a mixed mobile stack.
• Proven technical leadership as a senior individual contributor, including ownership of architecture, mentorship, and the ability to influence across teams.
