📋 Description

• Take charge of ActBlue's all-encompassing internal communications strategy — outlining KPIs, objectives, benchmarks, and success metrics for the function, while ensuring accountability for these elements.

• Direct both strategic planning and hands-on execution, establishing the framework for organizational communications and personally delivering impactful content such as executive messages, materials for all-staff meetings, and the internal newsletter.

• Manage the production and strategic direction of ActBlue's internal newsletter, including content strategy, editorial calendar, and channel standards that engage, inform, and motivate staff while furthering organizational goals.

• Set and uphold standards for all internal communication channels (Slack, email, Confluence), encompassing editorial calendars, style guidelines, and quality benchmarks.

• Lead content creation and strategic planning for quarterly virtual All-Staff Meetings (200+ attendees), effectively translating organizational objectives into engaging programming that enhances employee participation.

• Collaborate closely with the People & Culture team to facilitate change management communications and enhance employee experience, ensuring effective communication of organizational changes throughout the workforce.

• Oversee 25% of content creation for annual in-person All-Staff Retreats, curating programming that reinforces organizational culture and fosters connections within the distributed workforce.

• Prepare and advise Executive Leadership Team members for internal communications events and high-stakes scenarios, offering strategic insights and proactively addressing potential issues before they arise.

• Act as the primary escalation point and subject matter expert on internal communications for all staff, managers, and leaders, serving as a vital thought partner for senior leaders and the executive team.

• Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all communications, collaborating closely with DEI leadership to ensure inclusive messaging, genuine representation of lived experiences, and accessibility considerations for remote and distributed staff across diverse demographics.

• Receive advanced, confidential briefings on anticipated organizational changes, restructurings, and workforce actions before union notification, including the foundational business rationale and labor strategy, to design communication sequences that safeguard bargaining leverage and legal notice timelines.

• Establish and promote communication effectiveness metrics, leveraging data to continually refine strategy and illustrate the impact of the internal communications function to leadership.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of progressive communications experience with a proven record of owning and driving strategy for large-scale internal communication programs in organizations with 150+ employees, preferably in nonprofit, advocacy, and/or technology sectors; dedicated internal communications experience is essential.

• Demonstrated success as a senior advisor to Executive-level leaders, independently managing communications strategy and providing counsel on sensitive, high-stakes organizational issues with exceptional judgment and discretion.

• Proven ability to independently define goals, benchmarks, and success metrics for a communications function, while holding the organization accountable for achieving them.

• Comprehensive understanding of how communications influence employee engagement, organizational culture, and business effectiveness, with the capability to translate these insights into strategy, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.

• Outstanding writing and content development skills with a portfolio showcasing the ability to create compelling, strategic communications for varied audiences and sensitive organizational topics.

• Proven success operating with complete autonomy, effectively prioritizing large and complex tasks, and proactively identifying and addressing issues before they escalate.

• Strong executive presence and high judgment; capable of navigating interactions with senior leaders, including the executive team, and providing strategic value during high-stakes communications scenarios requiring discretion and political insight.

• Cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in communication practices, with experience in creating inclusive content that authentically represents diverse lived experiences and perspectives.

• Ability to work efficiently across various time zones and collaborate with distributed teams.
