Principal Experience Designer – Visual Design, Design Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance Unify’s visual identity through typography, color schemes, spacing, iconography, motion, and brand representation.

• Collaborate with the components sub-team and the patterns and templates sub-team to ensure consistent visual design across all assets.

• Work alongside product design, product management, and engineering teams to accurately translate product experience choices from the system to production.

• Maintain a scalable and semantic token architecture to support consistent user experiences across products over time.

• Develop and manage a library of reference designs and full-screen examples that showcase Unify in real-world product experiences.

• Oversee visual usage guidelines and documentation for designers, engineers, and AI-assisted workflows.

• Implement ongoing assessments of AI-generated designs and prototypes, enhancing tokens, examples, and guidance.

• Lead visual design initiatives for significant conferences, executive presentations, product vision projects, and marketing collaborations.

• Mentor designers and guide cross-functional partners through feedback, principles, and visual storytelling techniques.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in product design, visual design, UX, or related areas, with substantial involvement in platform or enterprise products.

• Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related discipline (or 8 years of experience and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 6 years of experience).

• A portfolio showcasing outstanding visual craftsmanship and the ability to translate a visual perspective into scalable product systems.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted design or prototyping workflows.

• Experience in defining or advancing a design system’s visual language, including tokens, components, patterns, and documentation.

• Strong capacity to craft engaging product narratives for senior leaders and high-profile audiences.

• Proven experience collaborating closely with engineers and navigating trade-offs between design intent, system integrity, and implementation.

• A history of influencing and mentoring teams without relying on formal authority.

• Experience in building reference sites, design-system documentation, or machine-readable design guidance.

• Familiarity with semantic or multi-tier token systems, motion design, presentation design, or event experiences.

• Background in front-end development, developer tools, cross-platform systems, or highly regulated industries.

• Willingness to travel up to 20-25% to engage with teams, partners, and customers.

• A reliable internet connection is required for remote or hybrid work settings.
