Principal Experience Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more locations.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and enhance the comprehensive product interaction model and information architecture across Khan Academy's offerings.

• Create navigation structures, role and permission models, and product terminology.

• Design and map cross-product journeys for students, educators, parents, and district administrators.

• Detect broken handoffs, conflicting mental models, and areas for consolidation or simplification.

• Construct experience maps, service blueprints, experience architecture diagrams, and design patterns.

• Provide guidance to the Design Leadership Team regarding significant product decisions.

• Collaborate with design managers, product managers, technical architects, and engineering leads.

• Establish lightweight governance frameworks, guidelines, and review processes.

• Mentor and influence embedded product designers.

• Prototype, wireframe, or redesign essential cross-cutting workflows.

• Utilize AI tools like Claude Cowork to enhance work efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in product design, UX architecture, or UX strategy.

• Proficient in information architecture, ecosystem and multi-platform interaction modeling, and systems-level design.

• Capability to translate product ecosystem perspectives into maps, models, and frameworks.

• Strong visual, interaction, and structural design abilities.

• Experience in guiding designers, PMs, and engineers without formal authority.

• Expertise in designing for diverse user types, roles, and permission structures.

• Skill in communicating architectural concepts to design peers and executive stakeholders.

• Cross-cultural competency skills.

• Submission of a portfolio is required.

• Familiarity with K-12 education, school district structures, or regulated/high-stakes environments is preferred, but not mandatory.
