Principal Engineer – Packaging Equipment

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.

📋 Description

• Identify, develop, implement, and govern essential strategies and programs throughout the manufacturing platform.

• Leverage subject matter expertise, collaborate with third-party engineering partners, and engage original equipment manufacturers to create automation projects that reduce labor and cut costs.

• Remain updated on industry regulations and codes pertaining to packaging equipment system design and operations; offer recommendations to enhance programs, policies, and objectives.

• Conduct technical and economic feasibility analyses to back business initiatives that yield competitive advantages.

• Create comprehensive Front End Loading packages that are clear, thorough, and demonstrate due diligence to ensure project success, including:

• Technology assessments and recommended solutions that align with plant, company, and industry best practices.

• Layouts of physical locations and general arrangement drawings.

• Assessments of infrastructure requirements and needs.

• Criteria for equipment acceptance and support for testing and acceptance trials.

• Performance criteria for equipment and systems.

• Identification of alternatives, prerequisites, risks, and opportunities.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to define cost, schedule, risk, and startup requirements for projects.

• Draft detailed functional control descriptions for unit operations and processing systems.

• Review Front End Loading packages or equivalent deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and operational efficiency.

• Generate rough order of magnitude estimates to provide initial business case direction.

• Troubleshoot and promote continuous improvement of existing packaging operations.

• Lead initiatives for machine design enhancements and equipment modifications.

• Conduct site surveys and assessments of production plants, providing support to sites as required.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or Packaging Engineering.

• Over 7 years of experience in food manufacturing with a focus on packaging system design.

• Proven experience leading teams and addressing complex technical challenges.

• Subject matter expertise in one or more areas of food production line packaging equipment.

• Experience with machine design in environments regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture or the Food and Drug Administration.

• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing automation and robotic solutions.

• Background in project engineering and execution.

• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies within engineering design.

• Experience in converting project requirements into technical solutions using sound engineering principles.

• Significant experience in packaging equipment engineering and its practical application.

• Willingness to travel up to 50 percent to support plant operations.
