Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Define and lead the architecture of scalable, event-driven systems on AWS.

• Oversee the design and development of core platform services and distributed systems.

• Establish the technical direction across teams to ensure consistency and long-term maintainability.

• Address complex engineering challenges that span multiple areas (e.g., scaling, data consistency, system resilience).

• Implement best practices for reliability, observability, and performance throughout the platform.

• Create systems capable of managing high event throughput, handling failure scenarios, and achieving eventual consistency at scale.

• Collaborate closely with Data Engineering to define data architecture, pipelines, and platform capabilities.

• Influence and enhance engineering standards, tools, and methodologies.

• Mentor senior engineers and serve as a technical leader across various teams.

• Contribute to key technical decisions and roadmap development.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8-12+ years of experience in building and scaling backend systems in production settings.

• In-depth expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript (preferably Node.js) or comparable backend ecosystems.

• Extensive hands-on experience in designing distributed systems and event-driven architectures.

• Proven track record in architecting systems on AWS, especially serverless technologies (Lambda, EventBridge, S3, API Gateway).

• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale technical projects or platform transformations.

• Strong understanding of reliability patterns (e.g., idempotency, retries, backpressure, fault tolerance).

• Experience managing systems at scale, including observability, monitoring, and incident response.

• Significant experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, Terraform, or similar tools).

• Solid knowledge of data modeling and working with high-volume, data-intensive systems.

• Ability to influence technical direction without formal authority.
