Principal DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a key technical consultant and a trusted advisor for enterprise MySQL and Oracle Database platforms.

• Design, manage, enhance, and modernize database platforms.

• Evaluate database environments for reliability, performance, security, operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and modernization potential.

• Create strategic improvement roadmaps.

• Architect and execute solutions for replication, clustering, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

• Lead the transition from traditional and on-premises database platforms to cloud-native architectures and managed database services.

• Develop, review, and set standards for production-quality code and automation related to provisioning, deployments, upgrades, patching, monitoring, compliance, maintenance, and operations.

• Promote Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD methodologies using Terraform, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.

• Establish and enhance SRE practices, including SLOs, observability, incident response, blameless postmortems, reliability engineering, and operational automation.

• Drive the adoption of GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, and Copilot within VS Code.

• Set standards for AI-assisted coding, troubleshooting, testing, review, and security practices.

• Collaborate with engineering, SRE, security, networking, and infrastructure teams to provide resilient and cost-effective platforms.

• Mentor engineers and offer technical guidance through architecture reviews, documentation, and stakeholder communication.

⛳️ Requirements

• Expert-level knowledge in MySQL administration, replication, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and performance optimization.

• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database, including RMAN, Data Guard, RAC or equivalent high-availability architectures, backup and recovery, tuning, security, and upgrades.

• Proven track record in designing and operating highly available, resilient, enterprise-scale database platforms.

• Experience in leading assessments, modernization initiatives, cloud migrations, or architecture consulting projects.

• Strong background in Linux administration, troubleshooting, and networking, encompassing DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls, SSL/TLS, virtual networking, and connectivity troubleshooting.

• Proficient in developing, testing, and reviewing production-quality code and automation with languages such as Python, Go, Java, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or similar.

• Extensive experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD practices.

• Familiarity with managing databases in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.

• Experience with Azure managed database services and Azure-native high availability/disaster recovery is preferred.

• Profound understanding of SRE principles.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools like GitHub Copilot.

• Ability to establish standards for reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated outputs.

• Strong consulting, communication, and technical leadership abilities.

• Experience with Kubernetes, team-level AI/agent-driven engineering workflows, and relevant certifications in Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft Azure is preferred.
