Principal DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary technical consultant and trusted advisor for enterprise MySQL and Oracle Database platforms.

• Design, manage, optimize, and upgrade mission-critical database platforms.

• Evaluate database environments for reliability, performance, security, operational efficiency, cost, and modernization prospects.

• Create strategic improvement roadmaps.

• Architect and implement solutions for replication, clustering, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

• Oversee migrations from traditional and on-premises database setups to cloud-native architectures and managed database services.

• Develop, review, and set standards for production-quality code and automation that encompasses provisioning, deployments, upgrades, patching, monitoring, compliance, maintenance, and operations.

• Promote Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD methodologies using Terraform, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.

• Establish and enhance SRE practices, including SLOs, observability, incident response, blameless postmortems, reliability engineering, and operational automation.

• Spearhead the adoption of GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, and Copilot in VS Code.

• Develop standards for AI-assisted coding, troubleshooting, testing, review, and security.

• Collaborate with engineering, SRE, security, networking, and infrastructure teams.

• Mentor engineers, providing technical guidance through architecture reviews, documentation, and communication with stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of MySQL administration, replication, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and performance tuning.

• Solid hands-on expertise in Oracle Database, including RMAN, Data Guard, RAC or comparable HA architectures, backup and recovery, tuning, security, and upgrades.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and managing highly available, resilient, enterprise-scale database platforms.

• Experience leading assessments, modernization initiatives, cloud migrations, or architecture consulting projects.

• Strong Linux administration, troubleshooting, and networking skills, including DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls, SSL/TLS, virtual networking, and connectivity troubleshooting.

• Capability to develop, test, and review production-quality code and automation using languages such as Python, Go, Java, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or similar.

• Significant experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD methodologies.

• Experience managing databases in cloud environments, ideally with Microsoft Azure.

• Familiarity with Azure managed database services and Azure-native HA/DR preferred.

• Profound understanding of SRE principles.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools like GitHub Copilot.

• Ability to establish standards for reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated outputs.

• Excellent consulting, communication, and technical leadership abilities.

• Experience with Kubernetes preferred.

• Experience with team-level AI/agent-driven engineering workflows preferred.

• Relevant certifications in Oracle, MySQL, or Microsoft Azure preferred.
