Principal Database Administrator – DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take charge of Database Reliability: Implement strategies for high availability and disaster recovery.

• Design for Scalability: Create and execute a roadmap for system scalability.

• Enhance Performance: Conduct in-depth query optimization.

• Create Infrastructure: Develop and oversee scalable inference and connection pooling strategies.

• Implement Observability: Establish a robust monitoring architecture.

• Promote Security: Apply banking-grade security measures.

• Collaborate Across Engineering: Partner with product teams to ensure architectural choices accommodate a high-load environment.

• Lead by Example: Set the standard for technical excellence within the DBA team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in high-load, production settings (ideally within Fintech or mission-critical systems).

• In-depth knowledge of index design (B-tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN), partitioning, and vacuum tuning.

• Demonstrated expertise in designing streaming replication, clustering, and automated backup validation.

• Practical experience with cloud-managed PostgreSQL (specifically GCP) and Linux systems administration.

• Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD workflows (GitLab, ArgoCD).

• Proficient in complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.

• Experience developing monitoring and alerting systems for databases (Prometheus/Grafana).

• Fluent in English.
