Principal Data Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the comprehensive target architecture that encompasses CDC replication, lakehouse landing (Fabric/OneLake), and a structured cloud data warehouse (raw/staging → conformed → curated) on Snowflake.

• Create and manage architecture decision records that document the transformation mechanisms, CDC/load strategies, semantic-model storage methods, warehouse isolation, and interoperability across platforms.

• Develop the curated data layer and dimensional model, including recalculating runtime values from source systems and standardizing key-value dimension structures into conventional reporting attributes.

• Formulate the approach for a single certified BI semantic model that serves all downstream reporting tools, ensuring metric definitions are versioned in a controlled environment.

• Collaborate directly within the codebase alongside the development team throughout the design-and-build phases.

• Lead technical explorations with client architecture, security, and platform teams.

• Address outstanding questions regarding interoperability and network/identity design.

• Establish quality gates for architectural decisions, including design validation, baseline locking, and readiness for cutover.

• Generate the necessary documentation for client stakeholder approval.

• Guide the development team on transformation patterns, incremental materialization, and the design of reconciliation/data quality processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in data architecture, including practical delivery (not just review) on enterprise data platform modernization initiatives.

• Demonstrated success in architecting cloud data platforms on Snowflake, incorporating layered raw/staging/curated models and incremental transformation techniques (e.g., dynamic or materialized tables).

• Proficient with Microsoft Fabric/OneLake or a similar lakehouse platform, including cross-platform interoperability between a lakehouse and a cloud data warehouse.

• Experience in designing change-data-capture (CDC) replication pipelines (e.g., Qlik Replicate, Fivetran, Debezium, or equivalent) from relational sources into a cloud environment.

• Proven track record in architecting governed, certified BI semantic layers (Power BI or comparable) utilized by various reporting tools.

• Strong understanding of data governance principles: classification, masking, row-level access, and lineage.

• Fluent in English (C1) for direct interaction with client architecture, security, and executive stakeholders.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP as a source system for financial/GL reporting.

• Experience in mortgage, lending, or wider financial-services data platforms.

• Knowledge of AI-assisted development toolchains within a controlled software development lifecycle (SDLC), where AI outputs are drafts necessitating human approval on production logic.
