Principal AI Security Engineer, AI Native Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the security strategy for frontier model access and MCP governance, defining secure connections to frontier models and external tool integrations, including the risk framework, authorization architecture, and escalation model prior to large-scale implementation.

• Design the identity and trust model for non-human agents, outlining authentication processes, trust establishment and revocation across orchestration chains, and the model's evolution as agent capabilities increase, addressing service identities, scoped credentials, and least-privilege access patterns throughout the platform.

• Establish the adversarial defense posture for AI systems in production, defining our strategy for prompt injection defense, adversarial input management, and behavioral monitoring patterns while establishing the detection philosophy, telemetry requirements, and response framework the team will utilize.

• Influence the security architecture for the common AI end-user platform by leading design reviews and constructing access controls, data boundary enforcement, and abuse detection mechanisms to ensure a safe shared AI environment for employees with varying levels of privilege.

• Safeguard the shared knowledge layer by defining access control and data governance for retrieval and reasoning, ensuring that AI-powered tools do not inadvertently expose sensitive data to unauthorized systems or users.

• Integrate AI supply chain integrity within the platform, developing model provenance practices, service vetting, and dependency controls to maintain the trustworthiness of the AI stack as it expands.

• Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Data Platform teams to ensure appropriate controls are implemented within pipelines that process real-time location data, family relationship data, and information involving minors.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of experience in security engineering, with expertise in application security, cloud security, IAM, or detection, demonstrating a history of building controls that achieve adoption rather than mere approval.

• Proven ownership of security architecture at the platform level, having defined trust models, data boundary topologies, and long-term viability that yield security results without hindering velocity.

• Practical experience with LLM and agentic systems, having built, broken, and repaired prompt pipelines, RAG architectures, and multi-agent orchestration from within.

• Strong foundation in IAM for non-human systems, including service identities, OAuth, secrets management, RBAC/ABAC, and least-privilege architecture at scale; you have designed and constructed identity systems rather than just utilized them.

• Experience with production telemetry and detection at an architectural level, having defined security observability strategies beyond just individual detections.

• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and ongoing projects, energized by problem-solving, drafting initial standards, testing methodologies, and scaling effective solutions.

• Strategic insight regarding when to build versus buy, effectively guiding the organization toward sound investments.

• Excellent cross-functional communication skills with engineering, product, legal, privacy, and senior leadership teams, capable of conveying risk, trade-offs, and technical decisions with clarity.

• A willingness to contribute to the security industry and represent Life360 in shaping best practices and discussions.

• Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, OWASP LLM Top 10, and related compliance frameworks for consumer data at scale.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
