Federal Security Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the entire lifecycle of personnel security clearances — including initiations, sponsorships, reinvestigations, and terminations — utilizing DISS/NBIS.

• Act as the main point of contact with DCSA (Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency) and other relevant security authorities.

• Conduct security briefings, debriefings, foreign travel briefings, and annual security awareness training sessions for cleared personnel.

• Keep precise records of cleared employees, visitor certifications, and foreign national contacts.

• Oversee and maintain AppGate's Facility Clearance (FCL) in line with DCSA guidance and NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117).

• Manage physical security measures, including access control, classified storage, open storage areas, and procedures for classified destruction.

• Perform and document regular self-inspections, creating and tracking corrective action plans as necessary.

• Handle classified visit certifications and coordinate access for cleared personnel to government and contractor facilities.

• Ensure the appropriate handling, transmission, storage, and disposal of classified information and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

• Assist program managers in reviewing DD Form 254s (Contract Security Classification Specifications) for both new and existing contracts.

• Collaborate with AppGate's IT and DevSecOps teams to guarantee that classified and sensitive program environments comply with applicable security requirements.

• Engage with government Program Security Officers (PSOs) regarding program-specific security requirements and deliverables.

• Uphold compliance with NISPOM, ITAR, EAR, and relevant federal security directives across all cleared programs.

• Create and enforce security policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) tailored to a software product company environment.

• Investigate and report security incidents and violations to DCSA and relevant authorities; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Assist with CMMC assessments, government inspections, and audits driven by contract security requirements.

• Stay informed about evolving federal security regulations and proactively update AppGate's security program as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret clearance; TS or TS/SCI is highly preferred.

• Over 5 years of experience in industrial security / FSO roles with a cleared defense contractor or government organization.

• Extensive knowledge of NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117) and DCSA processes.

• Practical experience with DISS, NBIS, or comparable personnel security systems.

• Experience managing an FCL and executing DCSA self-inspections.

• FSO Certification from DCSA's Center for Development of Security Excellence (CDSE) or an equivalent certification.

• Strong communication skills — capable of conveying complex security requirements to non-security personnel, including software engineers and executives.

• Bachelor's degree in security management, information assurance, cybersecurity, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
