Principal AI Engineer – Distributed Systems, Intelligent Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage backend services using Python and Node.js, design serverless compute architectures, and create the APIs that connect front-end functionalities to the underlying data and logic.

• Participate in the design of complex workflow engines, state machines, asynchronous event pipelines, and reliable retry and failure mechanisms across distributed services.

• Design and enhance RESTful interfaces, integrate both third-party and internal systems, and utilize advanced NoSQL data modeling techniques (composite key strategies, transactional operations) to ensure optimal performance under load.

• Oversee, troubleshoot, and continuously enhance system observability and deployment reliability on cloud-native infrastructure.

• Collaborate across different time zones, provide valuable input during code reviews, take full ownership of features from start to finish, and influence team processes beyond just the final product.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in developing production software.

• Extensive hands-on expertise in Python and Node.js.

• Experience with AWS in production environments: Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Step Functions.

• Proficient in advanced NoSQL data modeling; including composite key design, transactional writes, and scalable single-table patterns.

• Knowledge in LLM engineering: including tool/function calling, prompt construction, multi-agent coordination, vector search, embedding pipelines, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

• Capability in full-stack development with experience in frontend integration.

• Strong discipline in unit testing and maintainable test strategies.

• Experience with container-based deployment (Docker).

• Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles.
