This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• In the role of Principal AI Engineer, you will take charge of the inference and intelligence layer of the Exactera platform.
• Develop the foundation that supports agentic workflows.
• Determine the technical strategy, make decisions regarding build versus buy, and guide other senior engineers.
• Assess the technology stack against actual workloads and suggest modifications when necessary.
• Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, product management, and tax advisory domain experts.
• Design and manage the typed graph of tax-related entities and their relationships.
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with substantial expertise in at least two of the following areas prior to focusing on AI/ML: information retrieval and search infrastructure, knowledge representation, distributed systems, data-intensive applications, or platform engineering.
• More than 5 years in ML engineering, ML infrastructure, or the development of AI platforms.
• Hands-on experience with knowledge graphs or structured reasoning systems in conjunction with vector search and large language models (LLMs).
• Proficiency in hybrid retrieval design.
• Experience with RAG architecture and LLM integration in production environments, including cost optimization, retrieval quality assessment, regression detection, and reliability under load.
• Familiarity with AI infrastructure tailored for document-heavy workflows, including the extraction, classification, and analysis of semi-structured and unstructured documents into structured formats.
• Experience with model serving infrastructure in production, ensuring real-time inference endpoints meet latency, cost, and reliability service level agreements (SLAs), along with experiment tracking, model registry, and deployment lifecycle tools.
• Design of evaluation frameworks for retrieval and LLM-based systems.
• Development of APIs, SDKs, or platform services intended for use by other engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in Python engineering; experience with Node/TypeScript in production is advantageous.
