This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Conduct investigations into the future landscape of the U.S. power system.
• Assist in the design of models and the development of code for long-term energy systems planning and analysis.
• Emphasize energy demand forecasting, end-use sector load profiles, equipment stock turnover, and modeling of end-use technology adoption.
• Contribute to innovative approaches for capacity expansion modeling.
• Explore power system planning and operational rules, trends, and challenges.
• Implement quality control techniques.
• Research, obtain, organize, and analyze extensive datasets.
• Create adaptable data architectures for infrastructure systems.
• Collaborate with analysts from other modeling teams to connect model inputs and outputs.
• Run scenarios and evaluate results for reporting purposes.
• Convey findings to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Author and publish analyses in peer-reviewed journals and technical documentation.
• Assist in the development of proposals for new projects.
• Recent PhD graduate within the past three years.
• Must fulfill educational qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Understanding of U.S. energy systems.
• Expertise in applied statistical and quantitative methodologies.
• Prior experience in energy and electricity modeling and data analysis.
• Capability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
• Proven experience in presenting research outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Outstanding writing abilities.
• Documented record of publications in technical or peer-reviewed literature.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card.
• Must pass a thorough background investigation.
• Must clear a pre-employment drug screening.
• Authorized access to the facility under DOE regulations and guidelines is required.
• Must obtain work authorization and access to DOE facilities.
• Required to disclose and possibly disengage from involvement in prohibited Foreign Government Talent Recruitment Programs.
