This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Actively engage in the AI-Enabled Scams as a Systemic Security Challenge project, participating fully in ideation, conducting literature reviews, recruiting participants, and performing interviews or focus groups, as well as executing content/discourse analysis, coding data, memoing, writing, and fulfilling other necessary research tasks.
• Write and publish op-eds, blog entries, and academic papers that relate to ongoing research targeted at both academic and non-academic audiences.
• Foster a positive culture within the Research Management team, the AI & Democracy initiative, and the larger Data & Society community.
• Collaborate with both internal and external researchers during outreach and networking activities, which include meetings, presentations, webinars, events, and conferences.
• Take part in team activities such as meetings, presentations, webinars, hearings, and conferences, which may necessitate occasional travel.
• A PhD in Communication, Media Studies, Information Studies, Sociology, or a related field; the degree must be conferred prior to the starting date.
• Proven ability to independently conduct advanced qualitative research, encompassing interviews, focus groups, content/discourse analysis, and other research methodologies.
• Experience in participant recruitment for studies.
• Knowledge or interest in financial cultures, scams, generative AI, youth studies, economic sociology, or other relevant subjects pertinent to the project.
• Capability to work autonomously in a remote setting.
• A collaborative spirit and a willingness to be a generous intellectual partner.
• A strong background demonstrating an eagerness to comprehend how technology and power influence our sociotechnical society.
• Proficiency in translating research for non-academic stakeholders, such as journalists, policymakers, practitioners, organizers, civil society members, and the wider community.
• A profound commitment to social change and the practical implications of research for the design, governance, and implementation of new technologies.
• Must be available to travel for conferences, workshops, or team meetings during the appointment period.
