• Respond promptly to video and audio interpreting sessions, ensuring interpretation is conducted in a friendly and professional manner.
• Engage in online video and audio training sessions.
• Provide interpretation services through video while efficiently typing data on a dedicated device, such as a laptop, desktop computer, mobile phone, or tablet, to fulfill the core responsibilities of the role.
• Accurately convey concepts and meanings in accordance with established interpretation protocols, avoiding any omissions or additions.
• Communicate clearly in both languages, utilizing proper pronunciation, enunciation, and courteous expressions.
• Uphold a professional demeanor at all times during video and audio interpreting sessions.
• Stay composed during interpreting sessions, particularly when one of the primary speakers is upset or incoherent, especially in emergency scenarios like 911 calls.
• Ensure punctuality and availability during designated work hours.
• Adhere to client instructions, following protocol to meet client expectations with the Limited English-speaking Person (LEP), and avoid interacting with the LEP without the client's consent.
• Be knowledgeable of protocols and terminology across various industries, including but not limited to Medical, Insurance, Finance, and Law.
• Exhibit a commitment to cultural sensitivity and thriving in a diverse environment.
• Recognize that some calls may be highly emotional or stressful, and the interpreter may need to remain on a call for extended durations without breaks or may experience high call volumes. The interpreter must provide the required company standards of service in this dynamic setting.
• Fluency in both Portuguese and English along with proficiency in their respective cultural nuances.
• Capability to demonstrate cultural competency and evaluate regional and accent variations to effectively communicate with the LEP.
• Exceptional listening, retention, and note-taking abilities to ensure a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
• Ability to focus, remain detached from the conversation, maintain neutrality and objectivity at all times, and stay engaged during sensitive discussions such as end-of-life conversations, pregnancy terminations, vaccinations, and topics related to sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
• Preferred education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation.
• Must be adaptable to any LLS technology improvements that enhance service delivery and meet client needs.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Paid professional interpreter training and ongoing development opportunities.
