This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Support the Chief Advocacy Officer and the Director of Policy Campaigns & Government Affairs in implementing the organization's policy campaign strategy.
• Lead and assist in policy campaigns by building coalitions, facilitating stakeholder meetings, conducting research, monitoring legislative calendars, creating collateral (such as letters, petitions, fact sheets, talking points, etc.), advocating with decision-makers, planning direct actions, coordinating events, supporting communications, and tracking progress.
• Collaborate closely with organizational partners and community members, applying base-building strategies when suitable, to promote policy objectives through effective and ethical coalition management, which includes amplifying the leadership and voices of those directly affected.
• Monitor and support the implementation of prior policy achievements, sharing best practices with correctional agencies, aiding procurement processes, and gathering and analyzing data and outcomes.
• Work in partnership with the communications team on campaign-related initiatives to ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and consistency of campaign messaging.
• Supervise policy interns, fellows, volunteers, and other assigned staff.
• Oversee administrative tasks and needs for campaigns and associated events.
• A minimum of three years of experience in leading legislative campaigns, which includes strategy development, coalition building and management, drafting campaign materials, spearheading direct actions, and utilizing digital advocacy techniques.
• Proven ability to manage multiple campaigns and projects simultaneously with efficiency, skill, and composure.
• Demonstrated capability to cultivate trusted working relationships with partners and community members, showcasing reliability, effective delegation, and empathy.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Consistent practice of active listening, seeking clarification, and taking notes.
• Direct experience with the prison industry or experience working with communities that have been directly impacted.
• Basic understanding of the prison industry or a strong desire to learn.
• Willingness to travel as necessary.
