This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversee and monitor AILA's key legislative and policy issues, concentrating on removal and enforcement as well as selected humanitarian matters.
• Prepare legal, policy, and advocacy documents related to legislation, regulations, and policies.
• Provide recommendations regarding AILA's policy stances, priorities, and strategies in collaboration with AILA staff and expert leadership groups.
• Act as AILA's representative with Congress and government agencies, fostering relationships with congressional and administration personnel.
• Coordinate advocacy initiatives aimed at Congress and government entities.
• Assist, monitor, and evaluate the efforts of AILA's subject matter expert committees and national committees.
• Serve as a resource for AILA members on policy and legislative issues.
• Support the department's grassroots and member engagement activities.
• Create legislative, advocacy, policy, and other materials to optimize influence on targeted audiences.
• Collaborate with AILA communications and online content teams to generate policy, legislative, and advocacy resources.
• Provide education through conferences, webinars, public events, media interviews, and social media platforms.
• Represent AILA in national or regional coalitions and advocacy campaigns.
• Build relationships and partnerships with organizations that have aligned advocacy and policy objectives.
• A Bachelor's degree is required; a J.D. or master's in public policy or a related field is preferred; bar admission is preferred for the Counsel track.
• Three to five years of experience in immigration policy and/or general immigration law practice, focusing on removal and/or humanitarian immigration.
• Proven experience in drafting legal, policy, or advocacy documentation.
• Familiarity with administrative agencies, Congress, or state legislatures.
• Experience collaborating with coalitions or partner organizations on shared advocacy objectives.
• Previous experience in an association, member-service, or customer-service setting is advantageous.
• Extensive knowledge of immigration law, policy, and procedures.
• Strong understanding of strategy and the political landscape.
• Experience in developing and executing major policy advocacy campaigns directed at Congress and government agencies.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
• Strong research, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines, even under pressure.
• Capability to take initiative and work independently as well as in partnership with teams and volunteer leadership.
