Platform Engineer – Self-Service Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the self-service data and storage layer.

• Develop and maintain the storage architecture and access tools for extensive, multimodal biological datasets — including provisioning, access, and lifecycle management, made available as self-service.

• Construct platform services that simplify complexity.

• Establish internal services and paved pathways that encourage self-service data access and processing, reducing the need for researchers and engineers to submit tickets for routine tasks.

• Work adeptly with object storage solutions (e.g., S3) and contemporary storage formats (e.g., Parquet, Delta, Iceberg); design sensible and reproducible data workflows wherever the platform requires them.

• Enhance the team's Terraform/IaC and pipelines to ensure the data platform is reproducible and deployed in alignment with the rest of the platform.

• Implement access controls, data classification, and least-privilege access in code.

• Collaborate with the platform team to determine what transitions into the platform versus what remains experimental.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in production platform or infrastructure roles (typically 3–5+ years).

• Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code — particularly Terraform — along with practical experience using Kubernetes/Helm and containers.

• Capable in data platforms — strong working knowledge of object storage, relational databases, and modern storage formats, along with the data workflows that teams develop on them.

• Familiarity with data/workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Airflow, Prefect).

• Strong software engineering skills — proficient in Python (or a comparable language suitable for data and platform development), adhering to sound engineering practices.

• Security-conscious engineering — you incorporate access control and least-privilege principles in code, rather than as an afterthought.

• A mindset focused on platform-as-a-product — you create self-service features that people are eager to utilize, enabling rather than obstructing their efforts.
