Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Lead and enhance the financial data integration and machine learning classification platform.

• Develop, train, and deploy classification models through Wallaroo to forecast financial field/table mappings from document headers.

• Expand BERT-based question-answering models to extract structured data from unstructured property descriptions.

• Oversee and enhance the configuration-driven pipeline orchestration system.

• Align incoming files with processing pipelines, execute dynamic conditionals, and generate standardized output for downstream templates.

• Advance the parsing library for complex Excel workbooks featuring nested headers, multi-tab structures, merged cells, and various accounting system formats.

• Enhance prediction accuracy, broaden audit logging, and ensure processing integrity across diverse clients and document types.

• Influence technical decisions on model-serving infrastructure, database schema design, and API integration patterns with RealPage's Data Management Gateway (DMG).

• Offer mentorship and technical direction to one direct report.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of Python development experience in production machine learning systems.

• Extensive experience with natural language processing / text classification, particularly in training and fine-tuning transformer models (Hugging Face, TensorFlow) for document understanding tasks.

• Strong proficiency in pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL.

• Experience in building and maintaining ETL pipelines that handle messy, semi-structured data (Excel, CSV) at scale.

• Familiarity with machine learning model serving platforms (Wallaroo, SageMaker, Vertex AI, or similar), including OAuth2-based inference APIs.

• Capability to function as a technical lead, prioritize bugs, deliver features, make architectural decisions independently, and mentor junior engineers.

• Proven ability to work across the entire data platform stack, from raw file ingestion to model inference and API integration.

• Preferred: Experience in real estate finance, property management, or accounting data (chart of accounts, trial balances, rent rolls).

• Preferred: Knowledge of SFTP-based file processing workflows and Paramiko.

• Preferred: Understanding of dynamic code generation / evaluation patterns for configurable data transformations.

• Preferred: Experience in document parsing / OCR / intelligent document processing.

• Preferred: Familiarity with SSH-tunneled database connections and multi-environment deployments.

• Preferred: Previous experience mentoring or leading a small team.
