This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.
• Conduct thorough reviews and precise coding of Oncology Surgery and E/M cases to ensure timely and maximized reimbursement.
• Accurately code E/M visits and office procedures.
• Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and investigate coding scenarios as needed.
• Responsible for achieving daily production targets and maintaining an average quality goal of 95% accuracy consistently.
• Participate in conference calls to provide relevant information and feedback as required.
• Liaise with leadership regarding coding or documentation concerns and trends.
• Stay updated on all coding regulations, including oncology and surgery-specific guidelines, while ensuring that credentials are maintained as necessary.
• Engage in coding department meetings and educational sessions.
• Willingness to expand coding expertise into additional specialties.
• Uphold confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
• A High School diploma is required.
• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Successful completion of at least one certified program from AHIMA or AAPC, resulting in the corresponding professional credential (e.g., CCS-P, CPC) that is active and in good standing.
• A CPC or CCS-P certification is mandatory.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in physician coding (recent hands-on production), including at least 3 years of recent coding experience in the Oncology Surgery specialty.
• Must possess a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10 coding, modifiers, disease processes, surgical techniques, and Medicare and Medicaid billing policies for professional services.
• Additional required skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, and electronic healthcare record information and billing systems.
• Experience with Google Workspace is preferred, though not mandatory.
• Remote work experience is preferred but not essential.
• Auditing experience is a plus.
• CPMA certification is a plus.
• Experience with Cerner PowerChart is a plus.
