Physician AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the complete lifecycle of clinical and safety agents, encompassing scoping, PRD writing, architecture, evaluation, implementation, review, and production launch.

• Develop a clinical evaluation framework to serve as the standard quality benchmark for at least one agent.

• Ensure that evaluations are testable and ready for production for engineers and researchers.

• Enhance Counsel AI components such as history-taking, differential diagnosis, triage, and treatment planning.

• Evaluate AI performance against physicians utilizing representative case sets.

• Familiarize yourself with the existing stack by reviewing code, conducting evaluations, and collaborating with the clinical team.

• Identify and prioritize areas of improvement within Counsel’s AI and safety systems.

• Observe current workflows, select an agent or safety component, create a prototype, secure reviews, and launch it.

⛳️ Requirements

• MD, DO, or an equivalent international degree, with completed residency training or at least 3 years of clinical experience.

• Significant hands-on experience in building with LLMs in production environments, extending beyond mere experimentation.

• Proven history of taking ownership of delivered products in industry or startup environments.

• Board-eligible or board-certified status, accompanied by meaningful and recent clinical practice (strongly preferred).

• Published research, contributions to open-source projects, or public writing on clinical AI, LLM evaluations, or related subjects (strongly preferred).

• Experience working within an engineering organization (strongly preferred).

• Background in operating at an early-stage startup or founding one.

• An experimental mindset coupled with a readiness to prototype, test, and iterate.

• Ability to communicate clinical nuances to engineers and technical considerations to clinicians.

• Eligibility to complete U.S. employment verification via E-Verify.
