This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +6 more states.
• Design and implement high-voltage substation projects within the 34.5kV–500kV range.
• Develop designs and comprehensive engineering deliverables under the guidance of the lead engineer.
• Create detailed general arrangement, elevation, grounding, and conduit drawings.
• Conduct fundamental engineering calculations pertinent to engineering deliverables.
• Undertake intricate design assignments utilizing established design principles and practices.
• Employ standard CAD tools to generate drawings and associated deliverables.
• Execute calculations to determine manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
• Inspect completed installations and monitor operations for adherence to design, equipment, operational, and safety standards.
• Supervise project production efforts to guarantee projects are finished satisfactorily, on schedule, and within budget.
• Prepare and analyze technical drawings and specifications for electrical systems.
• Travel to job sites for evaluation and data collection as necessary.
• Submit field notes to the office to finalize project design.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in substation or general electrical T&D design.
• Proficiency in computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Associate Degree is strongly preferred.
• Comprehensive knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and the Design Guide for Rural Substations.
• Capability to review and coordinate vendor submittals.
• Understanding of substation phase spacing and electrical clearance requirements.
• Ability to produce and review complete construction documents with minimal supervision.
• Skill in creating control enclosure layouts, cable tray layouts and details, and conduit drawings.
• Familiarity with MV, HV, and EHV substation voltages.
• Proficient in developing and designing substation duct banks.
• Ability to interpret engineering calculations and studies.
• Competence in managing project schedules and completing tasks within budget.
• Extensive understanding of substation structures and equipment.
• Knowledge of substation construction and/or commissioning techniques and industry standards.
• Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence.
• Expertise in sketching single line diagrams, layouts, general arrangements, conduit plans, trench plans, grounding plans, and other design documents.
• Experience in the energy sector or a consulting services environment is preferred.
• Proficiency in 3D Modeling is preferred.
