This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Acts as both a Phlebotomist and Patient Service Representative at the Siteman Cancer Center Lab.

• Conducts phlebotomy procedures by identifying patients, gathering necessary supplies, verifying orders and tube labels, and communicating with patients about the procedure steps.

• Cleans the venipuncture site and collects blood samples in a way that minimizes patient discomfort.

• Confirms both written and electronic lab orders and releases orders for specimen collection.

• Prints tube labels and directs orders and labels to the phlebotomist responsible for sample collection.

• Consults with the physician team, Supervisor, or testing lab for clarification and validation of order appropriateness.

• Provides suggestions for alternative testing when necessary.

• Welcomes patients upon arrival and checks them into the scheduling and patient tracking system.

• Schedules appointments for walk-in patients and registers them in the Barnes system as required.

• Monitors insurance requirements and alerts the insurance verification department of lab tests needing precertification by the service date.

• Ensures that collected samples are sent to alternate laboratories as mandated by insurance.

• Aids physician teams and research coordinators in completing laboratory order forms related to research.

• Ensures that research orders are linked to the correct research billing code within the Barnes registration system.

• Prepares and maintains sample collection stations and the front desk area by monitoring and replenishing medical and office supplies.

• Immediately informs the Supervisor/Lead about any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages.

• Maintains efficient and effective area operations by upholding cleanliness and organization.

• Performs additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certification or a combination of education and/or experience.

• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.

• Basic Life Support certification from the American Red Cross.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Laboratory or Medical Office environment.

• Completion of an educational program in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistance.

• Knowledge of Anatomy.

• Proficiency in Blood Specimen Collection.

• Understanding of Body Mechanics.

• Ability to collaborate across teams.

• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

• Competence in Equipment Utilization.

• Experience with Insurance Verification.

• Strong Interactive Communication skills.

• Ability to order Medical Supplies.

• Skills in Order Management.

• Commitment to Patient Care.

• Proficient in Phlebotomy.

• Understanding of Physiology.

• Experience in Sample Collection.

• Skilled in Venipuncture.
