This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of the complete recruiting process for US positions: sourcing, screening, coordinating interviews, conducting reference checks, and extending offers.
• Collaborate with hiring managers to create job descriptions, interview strategies, and evaluation scorecards.
• Ensure a remarkable candidate experience throughout every stage of the hiring process.
• Manage the onboarding process from start to finish, including paperwork, IT equipment coordination, and creating a positive first-week experience for new hires.
• Oversee the US employee lifecycle: managing new hires, personnel changes, leaves of absence, and offboarding through our HRIS.
• Address daily payroll administration and employee payroll inquiries, liaising with our external payroll service provider.
• Ensure compliance with US employment laws across all states where we operate, including wage and hour regulations, leave policies, classification, and mandated notices.
• Serve as the initial point of contact for US employees and managers regarding HR-related inquiries, employee relations matters, and everyday HR requirements.
• Provide coaching to managers on performance discussions, team dynamics, and fundamental people management practices.
• Implement US-focused engagement and cultural initiatives that foster connection within our remote, distributed team.
• Collaborate with the Global People & Culture team to execute global programs, policies, and initiatives, tailoring and implementing them for the US context.
• 3–5 years of experience in a generalist HR/People Operations role within the US, ideally with a recruitment background, and preferably at a small start-up or growing company.
• Ability to navigate the full spectrum of the role—recruiting one moment, addressing payroll inquiries the next, and engaging in policy development thereafter.
• Willingness to collaborate with the global team based in Sydney during AEST time zones, with a preference for candidates located on the US West Coast.
• Familiarity with US employment laws across various states (no specific certification required).
• Experience with common HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Gusto, BambooHR, Tax Studio, or similar platforms).
• Strong judgment and confidence in acting as the primary People representative in the US, utilizing global support when necessary rather than relying on it daily.
• Eagerness to integrate AI and automation into US people processes.
• Clear and friendly communication style—serving as a trustworthy point of contact for employees at all levels.
• Enthusiasm and energy—leading the cultural initiatives for our entirely remote team through genuine and enjoyable engagement activities, both online and offline.
• Generous time off policies including Koala life leave, volunteer days, parental leave, and more to support a healthy work-life balance.
• Complimentary Koala products offered at ‘mates rates’ for friends and family.
• Access to our Employee Assistance Program, featuring unlimited sessions for support with financial, work-related, relationship, family, or wellbeing issues.
• Competitive 401k matching and comprehensive health insurance plans through Anthem.
• Learning Management platform along with individual and team development budgets and dedicated growth days.
• BCorp Certified, partnership with WWF, volunteer opportunities, membership in SoftLanding, a commitment to 1% for the planet, and much more.
