Part-Time Chaplain

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho.

📋 Description

• Acts as a messenger and promoter of faith, mission, and purpose.

• Engages with companies, their staff, and the community in a manner that reflects character through personal and spiritual practices.

• Conducts regular brief visits to company worksites (typically on a weekly basis) to connect with employees, fostering a relationship of trust and friendship inspired by the Chaplain’s profound Christian faith.

• Visits employees or their immediate family members at locations where care can be provided, such as hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, residences, or other venues.

• Offers confidential pastoral discussions for personal issues faced by employees and their immediate family members, covering topics such as family concerns, divorce, serious illness, elder care, grief recovery, parenting, financial challenges including debt discussions and budgeting, and other life-related stressors.

• Supplies referral services and coordinates specialized assistance for employees and/or their immediate family members addressing specific needs.

• May assist in planning, conducting, or attending funerals for employees or their immediate family members, providing follow-up support and encouragement during the grieving process.

• May visit employees and their immediate family members in jail.

• Collaborates with companies to notify families and other employees of deaths and serious injuries, offering support to those affected by various tragedies.

• May provide post-termination support for laid-off or terminated employees to aid in their transition to new work environments.

• May facilitate spiritual enrichment activities, although employee-led initiatives are typically more effective than those led by the chaplain.

• Provides, when appropriate or requested, literature and resources to assist company employees with life challenges.

• Represents companies to clients/customers in situations that involve ministry services (e.g., serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals).

• Participates in new employee orientations to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team.

• With the permission of the Executive Director of Operations (EDO), responds positively and assertively to additional duties and services requested by executive leadership of companies, in accordance with the Letter of Agreement between MCHAP Chaplains and the company.

• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team and in an interfaith environment. Capable of accepting diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.

• Proficient in listening and interacting with clients, employees, and their families. Skilled in delivering community presentations and managing interactions with family members and staff in high-stress situations. Holds a high regard for the dignity and worth of clients, employees, and their families. Competent in handling stressful situations and documenting accurately according to established standards.

• Demonstrates spiritual maturity and a commitment to a Christian lifestyle aligned with MCHAP’s Ministry values. Incorporates Christian principles in daily activities and job performance, possesses a fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and its applications, and affirms a saving faith in Jesus Christ while actively participating in a biblically grounded church.

• Exhibits the ability to interact professionally with diplomacy, patience, and courtesy across diverse groups; can establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships while providing exceptional customer service. Capable of making administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential matters.

• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills for effective interaction with leadership, colleagues, employees, and families. Maintains emotional stability to handle human suffering, emergencies, and other stressors.

• Demonstrates analytical skills to identify and follow up on problems or objectives, capable of recognizing solutions and resolving issues. Skilled in interpreting policies and procedures relevant to the position and communicating updates to others.

• Proficient in computer applications such as Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software, as well as internet, email, and web-based software applications. Quick to understand and learn new technology programs.

• Must possess a valid state driver’s license and meet the minimum auto insurance requirements for the state(s) where clients are served.
