This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malaysia.
• Support packaging design and development initiatives under the guidance of a senior engineer.
• Prepare and uphold packaging specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical drawings.
• Assist in CAD modeling and updates to packaging structures.
• Conduct packaging tests in accordance with ISTA/ASTM protocols, including drop, vibration, compression, and climate tests.
• Document, compile, and evaluate test results; generate test reports.
• Aid in the preparation of packaging qualification documentation and Engineering Change Order (ECO) submissions.
• Facilitate New Product Introduction (NPI) packaging tasks, such as sample preparation and testing.
• Support sustaining engineering activities, including ECOs, deviation requests, and implementation of changes.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams on issues related to packaging.
• Assist in liaising with packaging material suppliers for sample procurement.
• Contribute to supplier qualification processes under the direction of a senior engineer.
• Ensure that all work adheres to WD quality and safety standards.
• Help maintain packaging documentation within the WD Quality Management System (QMS).
• Actively engage in training programs and technical workshops.
• Shadow senior engineers on complex projects to enhance technical skills.
• Take responsibility for assigned tasks and ensure timely delivery.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering (or a related field).
• 0–2 years of professional experience.
• Internship experience in packaging, manufacturing, or an engineering environment is advantageous.
• Fundamental knowledge of CAD software tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Understanding of engineering principles, including materials, mechanics, and manufacturing.
• Familiarity with packaging concepts is beneficial but not essential.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Completion of a final year project or internship related to packaging, product design, or manufacturing.
• Experience with quality management systems (ISO, QMS) is desirable.
• Basic understanding of electrostatic discharge (ESD) handling for electronics.
