Outpatient SDS Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• The Outpatient Coder is tasked with the precise abstraction of data into the appropriate electronic medical record systems of clients.

• This role adheres to the Official ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Coding Guidelines, along with AMA CPT Guidelines and CMS directives.

• Responsible for entering required abstracted patient information into the client's information system.

• Engages with physicians for queries when necessary and collaborates with Clinical Documentation staff as dictated by account requirements.

• Ensures a consistent coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher while meeting established productivity standards.

• Assigns the appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes, and modifiers to facility-based Ancillary, Emergency Department, Observation, and/or Outpatient Surgery Accounts according to designated workflows.

• Abstracts and inputs coded data and/or charges to fulfill hospital statistical and reporting needs.

• Consults with physicians to resolve conflicting, unclear, incomplete, ambiguous, or inconsistent clinical information when necessary.

• Communicates opportunities for documentation improvement and coding concerns to the relevant personnel for follow-up and resolution.

• Collaborates with the Clinical Documentation Improvement and/or Revenue Cycle teams for account follow-up and reconciliation.

• Upholds required productivity and quality standards.

• Maintains the necessary coding credential requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Applicants must hold a recognized coding credential from either AHIMA or AAPC.

• A minimum of 3 years of coding experience is required; experience in a Trauma Level 1 and Academic Teaching facility is preferred.
