This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Perform on-site audits and inspections of organic operators, which includes farms, livestock operations, processors, handlers, and other relevant areas.

• Organize and prepare audits by reviewing documentation, conducting risk assessments, defining sampling methods, and creating standard-specific checklists.

• Execute interviews, carry out facility and field inspections, review documents, and collect evidence.

• Verify systems for traceability, mass balance records, input approvals, production records, and controls for organic integrity.

• Evaluate risks associated with contamination, commingling, fraud, prohibited substances, and other risks to organic integrity.

• Generate precise and timely audit reports, which include nonconformities and deadlines for corrective actions.

• Review evidence of corrective actions and assist in the decision-making process for certification.

• Keep up-to-date on regulatory changes, organic standards, and internal certification policies to maintain technical knowledge.

• Act with professionalism, ethics, impartiality, confidentiality, and a commitment to quality.

• Travel regularly within the designated region and, if necessary, to other locations across the United States.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience as an Organic Auditor, Inspector, or Certification Specialist, ideally under the USDA National Organic Program (USDA NOP).

• Familiarity with additional organic standards or programs such as EU Organic Regulation, Brazil Organic Regulation, Demeter, or Fair Trade is advantageous.

• Hands-on experience conducting audits related to traceability, mass balance, input verification, record reviews, and risk assessments.

• Proficient in identifying and assessing risks connected to contamination, commingling, labeling, fraud prevention, and maintaining organic integrity.

• Capability to independently carry out audits and produce high-quality technical reports in English.

• Experience with one or more certification scopes: crop production, livestock production, wild crop harvesting, processing and handling, as well as storage, distribution, and trading activities.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management abilities.

• Willingness and availability to travel extensively for field audits.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel domestically within the United States.

• A technical degree, bachelor’s degree, or higher education in Agronomy, Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Food Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline.

• Equivalent demonstrable experience in the organic sector or in certification/audit activities will also be taken into account.

• Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Must be located in one of the hiring regions: East Coast, Midwest, or West Coast.
