
Operational Researcher β ATM Cash Inventory Optimization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.
β’ A 12-month project aimed at creating and evaluating strategies for optimizing the dispensing of banknotes per withdrawal at ATM terminals.
β’ Formalization of the problem, including variables, physical constraints, and objective functions, along with a simulation environment utilizing withdrawal histories and Monte Carlo resampling.
β’ Development and assessment of three strategies: a periodic offline policy; a predict-then-optimize method integrated with reinforcement learning; and a short-horizon online MIP with fallback.
β’ Coordination at the battery level (a group of terminals) to synchronize depletion and minimize overall refilling requirements.
β’ Evaluation against baseline metrics such as refill count, time intervals between refills, service rates, latency, and traceability, employing paired statistical tests to ensure reproducibility.
β’ Tools utilized include Python, MIP solvers (Gurobi/CPLEX/CBC), and Git.
β’ A PhD or Master's degree.
β’ Degree status: either currently enrolled or completed.
β’ Relevant fields of study include Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics.
β’ Proficiency in mathematical modeling techniques using Operations Research, including linear programming, mixed-integer programming, heuristics, etc.
β’ Experience with solvers such as CPLEX, Gurobi, CBC, HiGHS, etc.
β’ Proficient in the programming language Python.
β’ Desired knowledge includes optimization software, programming languages such as R and SQL, AWS cloud services, and Agile methodology (Scrum).
β’ Stipend: R$ 9,000 for Master's-level candidates and R$ 11,000 for PhD-level candidates.
β’ Availability: 40 hours per week.
β’ Duration: 12 months.
