On-Call Scientific Outreach Support Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Identify scientific experts from SciLine’s internal database or other resources, and evaluate their scientific expertise and communication abilities for potential referral to journalists;

• Engage with scientific experts to recruit them for interviews with same-day deadlines;

• Contribute to SciLine’s database of experts.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a scientific field;

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Spanish is an advantage;

• Strong research abilities and a commitment to scientific integrity;

• Capability to establish trusting relationships with scientists, research institutions, and scientific organizations;

• Proficient in reading, comprehending, and swiftly extracting information from scientific and technical literature across various scientific domains;

• Skill in identifying and evaluating scientific communication abilities using a wide range of potential resources;

• Capacity to work efficiently under tight deadlines;

• Ability to operate independently while valuing collaborative feedback;

• Dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the scientific and journalistic fields—principles that are central to SciLine’s mission and success;

• Awareness of social and ethical considerations pertinent to science, science communication, and journalism;

• Understanding of SciLine’s overarching goal of enhancing journalism with scientific expertise and context while utilizing journalism to support evidence-based decision-making.
