On-Call Project Archaeologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Perform archaeological surveys, testing, and data recovery for projects mainly located in the Southeastern US and Mid-Atlantic regions.

• Responsibilities will include supervising on-call staff in the excavation of close interval shovel tests and formal excavation units.

• Prepare analyses and write reports for environmental regulatory assessments in accordance with NEPA, NHPA, and state requirements.

• Provide technical expertise in archaeology, which encompasses developing technical approaches, conducting analyses and documentation, and collaborating with both junior and senior technical colleagues.

• Compose and produce technical reports or documentation.

• Assess resources for eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places.

• Formulate resource management recommendations and evaluate project impacts on resources.

• Work alongside architectural and landscape historians for a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach to cultural resource management.

• Collaborate as part of an integrated team that includes engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, and other stakeholders.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related discipline.

• Over 3 years of relevant professional experience.

• Complies with the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeology.

• Proven ability to act as Field Director during archaeological field investigations.

• In-depth knowledge of Southeast archaeology; familiarity with other U.S. regions is advantageous.

• Proficient understanding of NEPA, NHPA, and other federal and state environmental regulations.

• Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Exceptional technical writing and communication abilities.

• Familiar with ArcGIS and experienced in using various GPS equipment.

• Specialization in historic archaeology, geoarchaeology, zooarchaeology, lithic analysis, or bioarchaeology.

• Significant experience in conducting or supporting consultations with Tribal representatives.

• Involved in project budget planning, scheduling, deliverable production, and QA/QC process monitoring.

• Registered Professional Archaeologist.
