Observability Engineer, Part Time

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and sustain comprehensive Datadog observability solutions across both cloud and on-premises settings.

• Create and manage dashboards, Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and advanced alerting policies.

• Establish and optimize monitoring for healthcare applications and infrastructure, such as EHR/EMR, HL7/FHIR interfaces, and clinical systems.

• Set up log pipelines, custom metrics, and telemetry ingestion utilizing Datadog Agent, OpenTelemetry, and APIs.

• Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and engineering teams to identify, address, and resolve incidents.

• Conduct root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews leveraging Datadog tools.

• Integrate Datadog with IT Service Management (ITSM), Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), security tools, and Tanium endpoint/asset data.

• Manage Datadog configuration as code using Terraform or the Datadog API/CLI.

• Enhance Datadog usage, tagging, data retention, costs, and performance optimization.

• Ensure that observability practices comply with HIPAA, NIST SP 800-53, and Zero Trust requirements.

• Produce technical reports detailing system health, performance trends, and reliability assessments.

• Engage with clients and stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle.

• Guide and mentor junior engineers on observability best practices and the capabilities of Datadog.

• Develop data models, machine learning functionalities, analytical workflows, and cybersecurity automation across enterprise datasets.

• Collaborate with Security Operations Center (SOC) personnel, threat hunters, threat intelligence analysts, penetration testers, digital forensics experts, and cybersecurity engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in observability, DevOps, SRE, or systems engineering, with significant hands-on experience in administering and architecting the Datadog platform.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Must be willing to undergo a U.S. Government background investigation.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Datadog APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, Log Management, Synthetic Monitoring, Real User Monitoring (RUM), and Cloud Security Management.

• Experience in monitoring and supporting healthcare applications and infrastructure (EHR/EMR, HL7/FHIR, clinical or patient-facing systems) in HIPAA-regulated settings is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with Tanium or similar endpoint management/visibility platforms is a significant advantage.

• Practical experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, and hybrid/on-premise infrastructures.

• Proficiency in Terraform and scripting/automation using Python/Bash.

• Solid understanding of SRE principles, SLIs/SLOs/error budgets, incident management, and root-cause analysis.

• Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, HIPAA technical safeguards, and Zero Trust architectural principles.

• Experience with integrating observability tools with ServiceNow, Jira, CI/CD pipelines, and SIEM/security tools.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information to a diverse audience.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Candidates should hold three or more of the following certifications: Datadog, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, CKA, Terraform, or ITIL certifications.
