This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and manage Canopy’s strategy for investing in the scaling of Next Gen materials, including determining regional capital requirements.
• Broaden Canopy’s Next Gen investor network and enhance key partnerships with investors.
• Create and sustain a qualified pipeline of Next Gen producers and projects within priority regions.
• Monitor the progress of opportunities, dependencies, decisions, and subsequent actions.
• Evaluate feedstock security, technology and operational readiness, management capacity, market demand, permitting, capital requirements, and primary risks.
• Validate claims using primary sources and generate brief, evidence-based evaluations.
• Identify project necessities such as customer validation, conditional demand, feedstock agreements, technical assistance, financing, or policy adjustments.
• Analyze financial and techno-economic assumptions to clarify capital requirements and financing deficiencies.
• Assist in preparing projects for engagement with funders.
• Create briefings, evidence packs, and meeting materials for producers, brands, investors, and partners.
• Engage in selected external discussions and document decisions, commitments, and follow-up actions.
• Support regional strategies through market sizing, feedstock evaluation, mapping of mills and converters, and analysis of policy, trade, and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with the Senior Director of Next Gen Transformation and colleagues involved in producer engagement, brand partnerships, investment, regional strategies, and research.
• Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in investment or market analysis, project finance, corporate development, management consulting, supply-chain analysis, or a related discipline.
• Experience in the industrial, infrastructure, or commodities sectors is advantageous.
• Strong analytical judgment with the ability to validate claims, find credible evidence, identify gaps in information, and differentiate real progress from mere announcements.
• Comfort in working with financial and techno-economic models, including the ability to question assumptions and clearly explain implications.
• A systems perspective encompassing supply, demand, finance, policy, infrastructure, and relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to follow through on multiple projects, regions, and contributors.
• Professional judgment and discretion concerning commercially sensitive or confidential information.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, research databases, and other analytical tools, along with a quick learning ability for new systems.
• Knowledge of pulp, fiber, packaging, textiles, circular materials, or relevant regional markets is a plus.
