This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Implement, commission, and enhance both new and existing DWDM network infrastructure across global locations.

• Collaborate with field teams to analyze OTDR traces, assess fiber, test insertion loss/ORL, and troubleshoot physical fiber infrastructures.

• Partner with dark fiber providers, ISPs, and colocation vendors to assess fiber spans and manage fault resolution.

• Identify and resolve complex optical issues, including link degradation, OSNR drops, and faults in transponders or line cards.

• Serve as a subject matter expert and the final escalation point for production network challenges.

• Leverage AI-driven tools and scripting to automate workflows, expedite root-cause analysis, and optimize network deployments.

• Guide junior engineers and field personnel in optical testing, fiber management, and vendor-specific platform operations.

• Design, construct, maintain, and operate Akamai's global DWDM network to support its cloud, edge, security, content delivery, and AI initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

• Extensive, multi-vendor knowledge across optical platforms such as Infinera, Nokia, Ciena, Cisco, and Coriant.

• Over 5 years of practical experience in building, operating, and troubleshooting production DWDM networks.

• Advanced understanding of DWDM system design, including optical amplification (EDFA/Raman), ROADM architectures, link budgets, and OSNR management.

• Proficiency in optical testing techniques, particularly in interpreting and analyzing OTDR traces.

• Demonstrated history of executing procedures, checklists, and runbooks with precision.

• Capability to independently oversee complex projects with minimal oversight.

• Hands-on experience utilizing Python and AI-driven tools to automate routine tasks, analyze data, speed up root-cause analysis, and enhance team productivity.
