This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +4 more countries.
• Direct the strategic development, capacity engineering, and robust design of Holafly’s core telecom network architecture.
• Take ownership of Holafly’s core topology and overall network performance.
• Create and maintain documentation of the current end-to-end core network structure, including packet core elements, roaming interfaces, and routing paths.
• Act as the primary technical liaison and architectural authority with the core network provider.
• Coordinate on technical roadmaps, platform upgrades, feature releases, and enforcement of SLA/SLO.
• Analyze traffic distribution, data throughput, signaling load, and latency metrics to pinpoint network bottlenecks and hardware or bandwidth constraints.
• Design and implement solutions for capacity challenges, enhancing packet processing, session initiation times, and IP routing pathways.
• Generate data-driven capacity forecasts based on subscriber growth, peak travel seasons, and regional demand spikes.
• Establish geo-redundancy, active-active failover, and disaster recovery protocols.
• Fine-tune QoS profiles, APN setups, and BGP/MPLS routing protocols.
• Perform root cause analysis for significant outages or performance degradation events and make preventive architectural modifications.
• Collaborate with wholesale IPX carriers, clearinghouses, core vendors, and MNO partners to eliminate vulnerabilities.
• Keep abreast of 5G, eSIM, and cloud-native core standards to modernize Holafly’s architecture.
• Over 6 years of experience in mobile network architecture, core network engineering (EPC/5GC), or network strategy within an MNO, MVNO, or MVNE setting.
• Extensive hands-on experience with 3GPP LTE/5G core architectures, including MME, HSS, PGW, PCRF, AMF, UPF, and SMF.
• Familiarity with roaming protocols such as S6a, S8, GTP-C/U, Diameter, and SIP.
• Understanding of IPX interconnects.
• Experience collaborating closely with core platform vendors and cloud-native or virtualized MVNE platforms.
• Knowledge of BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IPsec, DNS, and CGNAT.
• Proficient with tools like Wireshark and tcpdump.
• Demonstrated ability to identify network bottlenecks, implement capacity expansions, and design reliable, highly available distributed systems.
• Experience with network monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK.
• Familiarity with traffic generation and testing tools.
• Capability to analyze complex network telemetry, trace signaling flows, and resolve performance issues.
• Skill in translating business growth objectives into technical specifications and conveying architectural trade-offs to senior leadership.
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, product, and external vendor teams.
• Professional fluency in Spanish is a plus.
• Nice-to-have familiarity with AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, NFV/VNF orchestration, GSMA RSP, SM-DP+, and SM-DS.
