Multimedia Journalist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Write and report stories while also capturing photos for various platforms including print, web, and mobile, ensuring content is tailored to the specific needs of each medium.

• Generate and develop local story ideas on a daily basis, a crucial aspect of the role, along with the adaptability to swiftly shift focus to other newsroom priorities as demands change.

• Utilize social media and other digital tools to monitor breaking news and gauge real-time discussions among Londoners, identifying topics that require immediate attention.

• Submit video clips for digital platforms; collaborate with digital teams to produce interactive content and multimedia elements that engage and enrich the audience.

• Build and maintain sources to uncover stories and contribute to shaping the news agenda.

⛳️ Requirements

• A graduate from a journalism school or a related discipline.

• Previous experience in a newsroom is beneficial, but the ability to quickly assess and prioritize needs to advance through the learning curve is essential.

• Capable of writing effectively in high-pressure situations, including breaking news, features, and short-form content, as well as experimenting with non-traditional formats like explainers and Q/As.

• Eager to seize the opportunity to work in a fast-paced newsroom alongside top-tier journalists, demonstrating your capabilities to contribute positively.

• A tenacious investigator, not content with superficial answers; always seeking out hidden angles in stories and possessing, or developing, a knack for explanatory journalism.

• A reporter who is curious not only about what has occurred or is occurring but also about the reasons and processes behind events, with the skill to clearly communicate that added insight to readers.

• Experience and proficiency in video or podcast presentation is advantageous.

• A valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are also considered assets.
