Reporter – Business of Law

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Report on breaking news and provide exclusive insights concerning the world's leading law firms and the business dynamics influencing them.

• Establish and nurture a robust network of contacts within law firms, legal industry consultants, recruiters, and other market insiders.

• Cover topics such as leadership transitions, law firm financials, compensation, recruitment, mergers, strategic initiatives, and client trends.

• Utilize data to discover story ideas, enhance reporting, and enrich coverage.

• Analyze datasets connected to law firm performance, workforce size, revenue, profitability, growth, and market trends.

• Create or partner on visual storytelling elements including charts and graphics.

• Generate breaking news, enterprise pieces, analytical reports, and feature articles.

• Collaborate closely with editors and newsroom team members to develop authoritative, competitive, and unique coverage.

• Primarily write for the Florida publication Daily Business Review and contribute to The American Lawyer, Pro Mid Market, and other affiliated brands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Multiple years of reporting experience, preferably in the legal, financial, business, or professional services sectors.

• Proven history of breaking news and crafting exclusive stories.

• Excellent skills in source development and the ability to build trust with high-level industry contacts.

• Strong news judgment in a dynamic, competitive environment.

• Exceptional writing, reporting, and interviewing abilities.

• Keen attention to accuracy and detail.

• Team-oriented mindset with the capability to work efficiently within a digital newsroom.

• Experience covering the legal industry or major professional services firms is preferred.

• A passion for integrating traditional beat reporting with investigative and data-driven journalism is preferred.
