This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Address the effects of climate change in Pennsylvania.
• Report on how climate change intersects with land use, business, energy, water, policy decisions, environmental justice, and health.
• Approach the climate reporting from a solutions-oriented perspective, evaluating whether these solutions can be implemented on a statewide or national level.
• Identify opportunities for consistent coverage, such as actions by the state climate committee, climate-related legislation, and regulations from the Department of Environmental Protection.
• Balance iterative and feature reporting, typically producing a minimum of two to four stories each month.
• Propose, develop, and carry out in-depth enterprise stories that explore issues beyond the surface.
• Write with depth and insight about complex environmental and climate topics impacting Pennsylvania.
• Conduct investigations when relevant subjects are identified.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline (preferred).
• Three (3) or more years of reporting experience.
• Proven news judgment, ethics, and innovative storytelling techniques.
• Ability to craft well-researched, articulate stories that blend data and narrative elements.
• Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Passion for applying journalism engagement practices to support audiences.
• Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experiences on team projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to excel in a deadline-driven environment with a focus on detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in using content management systems, social media, and project management tools.
• Ability to accept feedback constructively and engage positively in collaborative team efforts.
• Digital reporting/writing experience is preferable.
• Portfolio submission and/or writing assignment may be required during the interview process.
• Resume and cover letter are mandatory.
• Must reside in Pennsylvania.
